Metrel PQA: highlighted accessories

Our or for that matter any power quality analysers (PQAs) are nearly useless without proper accessories, of which there are many. However, some are more useful, or should we say indispensable in specific situations, and these are the ones that we’re briefly going to touch upon in this newsletter.

Flexible current clamps: A 1501/1502/1503 vs. A 1227/1445/1446
Flexible current clamps are a staple PQA accessory, but not all are equal, except in their purpose. Some, like A 1501 & A 1502 1-phase mini flexible current clamp (Rogowski coil) 3000/300/30 A / 1V and A 1503 1-phase mini flexible current clamp 6000/600/60 A / 1V , are specially designed for use in cramped and hard to reach places, while others (A 1227, A 1445, A 1446) can be comfortably used in situations where space and access isn’t an issue.

Connections: S 2139 vs. crocodile clips
Connecting the actual PQA’s test leads to an analysed installation can sometimes be a daunting task, as some connection parts are more exposed as others. Crocodile clips are for example used for more exposed parts like busbars, screws nuts etc. Magnetic contact probes, like S 2139 Set magnetic contact probe 4 pcs, can, on the other hand, be used where the exposed parts are small and hard to reach (RCD or automatic fuse screws).

Remote monitoring & real-time data transfer
One of the handiest features supported by selected PQAs (MI 2893 Power Master XT, MI 2892 Power Master and MI 2885 Master Q4) is the option of remote monitoring and real-time data transfer using the A 1753 4G / Wi-Fi Router. As the name implies, the router enables data transfer through either a GPRS network or a local Wi-Fi network.

On-Site power supply
Power outlets are a welcome sight at any testing location, but are not a prerequisite for continuous, long-term logging sessions with our PQAs – thanks to the A 1479 Wide range power supply. This accessory is most often used in combination with the A 1565 Waterproof case for outdoor application and recordings (pylons, switchyards).

E-mobility
The A 1631 EV monitoring cable [link] is another helpful accessory that can be used in conjunction with our PQAs – in this case for easy monitoring of charging process between an electric vehicle and the charging station.

Analysis of domestic/industrial electricity meters
The best or should we say the only accessory we offer for analysis (in conjunction with MI 2892 Power Master or MI 2885 Master Q4) of both domestic and industrial electricity meters is the A 1756 Photo-scanning head. Said accessory was also featured in one of our previous newsletters.
